Of all the things that we as creatives might battle against in our attempts to earn a decent living from our art is the mediocre and somewhat uninspired business advisors and consultants. Some of us are lucky and we can get what we need from them to take our artistic endeavours onto a more sustainable and profitable level. Whilst others of us struggle with narrow-minded attitudes and frustratingly poor and somewhat patronising guidance. Regardless of whether it is the bank manager, accountant or business advisor subjecting us to their stereotypical views, we slowly sink into apathy and depression wondering whether we will ever be able to make a living from being creative. And if ever we hoped to make our millions with our art – then we are destined to be sorely disappointed.
What is Entrepreneurship? Is it about time and money?
Entrepreneurs are intriguing creatures. Fascinating beings that seem to thrive on breaking the mould of conventionality and doing things different. What is it to be an entrepreneur? What is it about? Who really knows? There are certainly plenty of books out there for us to study and may be psychologists have attempted to assess the required ingredients that make a successful entrepreneur. Whatever our thoughts are – we have to remember that we don’t have to have a dream of becoming a billionaire to think entrepreneurially. However, it does help taking on the mantle for a while when we are in business and regardless of whether it is an arty business or not – the same rules apply.
